Over the course of my 8-weeks as a Ford Ignite Intern, I supported the General Stores department within Van Dyke Powertrain Center’s (VPC) Material Planning & Logistics team (MP&L), contributing to part inventory management and operational efficiency.
Received Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training; gained cross-facility insight visiting transmission and vehicle operations plants.
I collaborated with the VPC Innovation team and 3D Printing Lab to develop an algorithm sorting over 50,000 non-production parts, identifying candidates for in-house manufacturing and reducing costs and storage demand. Through this process, I leveraged AI and digital automation tools to sort through large datasets and expeditite identifying key sorting characteristics.
Uploaded nearly 500 part photos to plant's internal inventory softward, exceeding KPIs by nearly 25%. These photos increased efficiency within General Stores, allowing for faster maintenance and quicker turnaround times.
